Emily Remba, LCSW, PMH-C

Owner, Licensed Therapist

LCSW #68029

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and certified by Postpartum Support International as a perinatal mental health professional (PMH-C). I am warm, attentive, relatable, supportive, and genuine. My goal as a therapist is to foster an environment where you feel safe and supported, and together we will find ways to improve your life by building on your strengths. Starting therapy may be scary and finding someone who is a good fit for you can be hard. Taking that first step and reaching out takes courage, and I appreciate you trusting me.

I founded Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness because of my passion for working with individuals throughout their reproductive journey. I love helping those struggling to become parents and parents who are struggling with this new role. I bring both lived and academic experience to my work, which primarily consists of infertility (primary and secondary), pregnancy loss/miscarriage, complicated pregnancy, premature birth, NICU hospitalization, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I work with individuals who are experiencing painful memories and distress related to these challenging experiences.

My objective is to provide a place to explore your concerns and will collaborate with you to create achievable, meaningful goals to improve your emotional well-being. With training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), experience with CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), certification in TF-CBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy), and other modalities, I will tailor my therapeutic interventions based on your individual needs. I have completed specialized training courses in fertility counseling, perinatal mental health, and Positive Discipline parenting strategies. I hold a B.A. in psychology from Barnard College of Columbia University and an MSW from San Diego State University.

My self-care time is spent with my husband of 15 years, our rainbow baby, and our rescue dog. I love to play board games, take walks, do arts and crafts, read, and listen to podcasts. I look forward to connecting with you!

Katelin Buchanan, MA, LPC, LPCC, CSAC

Licensed Therapist

LPCC #4365

I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) with over 10 years of experience treating adolescents and adults struggling with a wide range of issues; more recently, however, I have become particularly passionate about working with individuals struggling with infertility and pregnancy loss.  Combining post-graduate training in fertility counseling and firsthand experience, I strongly believe counseling is an invaluable tool for individuals navigating through their journey of becoming a parent.  I consider the relationship between the client and therapist to be the most critical component of counseling; in order for the client to feel empowered to change throughout the process they must feel unconditionally safe, respected, and supported.
As my client, you should always expect me to be fully present, empathetic, and non-judgmental.  I want you to know that I always have your best interest in mind and that while you are ultimately the one who can make change in your life, I am there to support you in doing so.  I value holistic and cognitive behavioral techniques and believe there are many ways to improve one’s overall mental and physical health.
I hold a B.A. in developmental psychology from Duke University and a MA Ed. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  I am a San Diego transplant and after living on the east coast all of my life, am thoroughly enjoying all that this beautiful city has to offer!  I try to spend my free time with my husband and twin rainbow babies at the beach, exploring new restaurants, running, and taking advantage of technology to keep in touch with family and friends in Virginia.  I consider it a privilege to do this work and genuinely look forward to being a part of your journey.

Lorraine Balek-Beeson, LPCC

Licensed Therapist

LPCC #4057

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with eight years of experience assisting individuals, couples, and families in moving towards a new sense of balance after a loss or a trauma. I am person-centered in my approach to therapy, providing a calm, safe, and non-judgmental environment in which clients are encouraged and supported during the exploration of their emotions. I pride myself on employing a variety of research proven techniques such as CBT, EFT, and DBT. This allows me to custom tailor therapy sessions to each client’s individual needs. I am inspired to assist others in working through their issues during the reproductive years as I too experienced the mental stress and emotional toil of miscarriage, infant loss, and parenting a rainbow baby. It was these experiences which initially motivated me to become a therapist!

While my rainbow baby has now grown to adulthood, I spend my off-duty time with my husband, watching movies, going to concerts, hiking, gardening, and working on remodeling our home! I also enjoy cuddling up with my Cairn Terrier and reading either for work or pleasure.

Karem Smith, LMFT

Licensed Therapist

LMFT #105577

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping individuals with recent and childhood traumas. I believe that previous traumatic experiences can impact the way in which we react to challenging situations. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which can help to decrease the intensity of the previous traumatic experience. My goal is to support you in healing and being the best version of who you want to be. My approach is person-centered and I believe that only you are the expert of your life. I am personable, empathetic and I understand how the difficulties of labor, delivery and parenting can fill us with self-doubt. Seeking support during these challenging times takes strength and courage. I endured my own challenges with becoming a mother of two and I know it takes work to grow as a parent. I have over five years of experience with teaching positive parenting skills and supporting parents with their parenting goals. My desire is to humbly assist you with your personal goals so that you can strive to live a happier, more fulfilling life.

When I’m not a therapist, I enjoy goofing around with my two teen-aged children, going out to dinner with my husband, and working out with friends.  I enjoy going to see live music, swimming at the beach and snowboarding in the winter. With a dog, two cats and three fish, our home is never empty.
